A Backyardigan-Free Evening

yesterday, after arriving home from school, ro promptly placed his behind on the couch.

i was determined to have a backyardigan-free night, so we went out to the front porch to do a little sweeping...
...then back inside to play with one of his new birthday toys...one of the gifts roman received for his birthday was a mr. potato head set. although he likes playing with all the parts, see if you can figure out which accessory is a favorite.


oh, and we ended the evening with, you guessed it...the birthday song...again.

Birthday Hat

just a quick post and pic...ro started in his new classroom yesterday. he got to wear his "birday at" all day and of course bring it home. he kept putting it on and taking it off until it finally fell apart. still wants us to sing the birthday song to him. i'm not sure how long we will have to do that, but it certainly makes him smile.

"Momma, Birday, I Two"

my baby turned two today. sniff sniff. i still can't believe it. it is so cliche, but i remember the day he was born like it was yesterday. i remember the smell of him when he was minutes old, the way he looked at me and how good it felt to hold my flesh and blood in my arms. it still feels so good today, except now he can hug me back and kiss me back and tell me "i luh you, momma". ahhh, this is what it is all about. i am not lost on the fact that these are the best days of my life. sometimes i cry (happy tears) thinking about that and wishing they weren't flying by so fast. i hope you enjoy my little trip down memory lane...

as you can see, he enjoyed a few of his gifts, mostly the more simple ones. (isn't that always how it goes?) but the best part of his birthday was when we sang to him. after his prayers and kisses from duke, we asked if he wanted us to sing the birthday song to him again. he said "ready?" and we started...happy birthday to you...happy birthday to you...happy birthday, dear roman...happy birthday to you...his smile could have lit up the whole town! he enjoyed it so much that we sang 2 more times...each time his smile grew bigger. i think if we had only given him his backyardigans stickers and sang to him, he would have had the best birthday a 2 year old could have. i love you, roman. happy birthday punkin!

Croupy Weekend

we had a really nice weekend planned. we were going to go to pinehurst, nc to visit our friends john and autumn and their little darling arianne. i guess it wasn't meant to be. when i picked roman up from school on friday night, he just wasn't himself. on the way home, i heard him cough...there was that barking again. Croup, dangit...we tried to keep from going to the er, but at about 8:30, we got scared that his airway was closing. a quick trip to the er proved to help him feel a little better and ease our minds. since we had planned on being away, we didn't have anything planned for staying at home. it was a lazy weekend. roman was up and down, hyper at times (thanks to the steroids) and completely cuddly the next moment. here are a few pics of my poor little sick baby lounging and goofing off.

We're Crafty!

my friend allison has twin nephews that will turn one next week. she was looking for a really special gift for them. i suggested that we make a blankie, a lovey, whatever you want to call it. i had seen the idea on another blog and it had a super soft material and some silky tags around the edges. the tags could be just for touch and comfort or function, i.e...attach a toy with a plastic ring. we had a great time figuring out different fabrics and patterns and ribbons we could use. we even appliqued their initial on each one since they are otherwise the same. twins have to share so much other stuff, why should they have to share a blankie? sooooo, check out our handiwork...i think the boys will love them. happy birthday atticus & isaiah!

Naps on the Couch

one of my favorite sights is a couch full of sleeping cuties...here is a pic of 2 of my boys napping on a rainy saturday afternoon. yes, ro is still in his pajamas, don't judge me!
