Sweet & Sassy

with all the baseball, all the time...our sweet and sassy girl gets a little lost along the way.  but, never fear, she does get to do some fun stuff and she keeps us smiling!

Fun in the Sun

one weekend before school started, gianna said she wanted to have her friends over to go to the pool.  so we invited a few girls from her class to hang with us for lunch and some fun in the sun.

amazingly enough, they played so well together, no fighting or jealousy or anything.  love them!

Last Hurrah

we've been going non-stop all summer and we still had some time to cram in some fun before school started, so we took full advantage!

friday night, we met up with gracie and eleanor, both of who will be in gianna's pre-k class.  they didn't know each other yet, and we thought it would be fun to introduce them ahead of time so they had a familiar face once the first day of school arrived.  as you can see, they were fast friends! 

grandpa and grandma hung out with us on saturday.  when grandpa is around, who needs a jungle gym?

on sunday afternoon, gianna's buddy lucy invited her to their pool for a final goodbye before gianna headed to school.  we sure are going to miss our lucy goosey!  she was sad when we went to leave and i just love her face progressing from grumpy to "i can't contain my smile"...silly girl!

Let me tell ya 'bout my BEST FRIEND...

our kiddos are super lucky to have some really great friends.  gianna has 2 best friends in her class at school, lucy and emma.  they are just the cutest!

 

i'm not sure why my kids do the weirdest things when i say smile...

we don't get to see roman's best friend mady a lot anymore because they don't go to the same school and they are both getting busier with their extracurricular activities.  but, one afternoon, we were able to have mady over and they had a blast together, doing nothing.

Party at the Bounce House!

this year, gianna requested a party at the bounce house.  and, i'm happy to oblige.  this place might be where we spend 75% of the birthday parties around here, but, they have it down to a science.  you basically reserve the room, pick the number of kids that are attending, and all you have to do is bring a cake.  they get everyone signed in, order pizzas, have water and juice boxes and goody bags all ready for you.  it's so nice!  plus, i don't have to clean my house to prepare for guests...win win! 

gianna is pretty obsessed with paw patrol right now.  that is a cartoon show that has a few little dogs that rescue people & pets in need of some help.  she really likes the girl dogs, skye and everest.  so, her t-shirt and socks (from mimi) are skye and everest, but the balloons and party plates have all the dogs.  her cake is in the shape of a bone and we put some of her toy dogs on it.  easy peasy!

her friend emma was sick all week with strep throat, so we sure were happy when she was able to come!  pardon the picture of the phone pic, but getting them to stand still is a major accomplishment, so i took the chance when i had it!

 

these kids have so much energy...they were bouncing and climbing all over the place!

 

when it was time for pizza and cake, gianna got to bang the drum so that everyone knew to head to the party room.  this is a favorite thing to do, so she was nice enough to let other friends have a turn too.

Princess Party

my baby is almost 3! and, as much as i want to deny it, she is growing up. she has her own opinions and thoughts and i love it. she also has some really sweet friends. so, we decided that she should have a princess party. she invited 2 school friends, lucy and emma, and 2 church/SGG friends, gracie and clare. all of these sweet little girls, have very close birthdays. lucy's is actually in october, but emma and clare share a birthday on november 10th and gracie and gianna share a birthday on november 11th. i have a feeling we will be partying with these girls for many years to come!

right now, gianna is into all things girly, glittery and frilly. princesses, fairies, whatever. so, we asked each girl to wear a princess dress if they wanted to.

to be completely honest, we had a tea party first, but the girls were still in the shy/cranky phase, so all the pictures were ridiculous.

thank goodness for pinterest, people. it gives me great ideas. and this was a really easy cake to make. love that!

gianna really liked having everyone sing to her. she watched this video no less than 5 times right before bed!

the girls played a little "stick the amulet on sofia" and surprisingly, they ALL put it on the right spot. we think they couldsee below the eyemask, but at one point, gianna did it with my hands over her eyes, and i was NOT letting her see, so i think they did great!

her friends brought her some really sweet gifts!

 

i wish i had gotten a picture of all of them together before they left, but i waited too long. boo!

oh well, a photo op with both sofias will have to do!

gianna was very tired from all the princessing, so right after dinner we went upstairs to get into jammies. and she opened all of her gifts. here she is wearing some princess shoes, playing with a new tea set, with her new elsa wand and sofia toys nearby. i really enjoyed this time with her. so sweet to see her in her room, playing nicely.

so grateful for this girl and every minute of her "almost" 3 years with us!

Gianna loves Lucy

gianna has a really cute little friend in her class at daycare. they have been in the same classroom several times and are only a month apart. lucy is super sweet, and i just love her little personality. lucy's mom emailed me and asked if they could have gianna over for a play date. at first, i thought she might be too young, but then i thought that we could give it a try. to be honest, she really hasn't ever had any play dates of her own, she always gets to tagalong with big brother, but never by herself. so, this was a really special occasion.

we bought cookies to share (the really yummy kind with the frosting on top...blue, of course!) and gianna wanted to hold them on the way over.

when we got there, lucy was sitting on the front step waiting for gianna. she started to jump up and down and was so excited for us to be there, finally! gianna was a little shy at first, but that faded quickly.

they were really great at playing together and sharing. lucy already had a tutu, so we brought ours and some tiaras and wands to share. so, we had a pink princess and a blue princess.

they danced and ran around the house for a little while before we decided to take a walk and then head to the park.

gianna was always sideways about halfway down. the face is too funny!

the girls were worn out and were sad to say goodbye to each other, so there were some tears, but we promised to return the courtesy and invite lucy to come over soon. can't wait for "Nonna & Lucy" part two...

since the boys had taken advantage of a girl free afternoon and headed to the movies, gianna and i extended our girl time together and had dinner and a sweet treat at DQ before we headed home.
